Foundation

Foundations are an important starting point of the site works as part of the structural building process. It supports and anchors the super-structure of a building from movement and transmits its loads directly to the ground. To prevent damage from sinking soil or unstable ground condition, a properly designed foundation does more than just supporting a house. The design can keep moisture or rising damp out, insulation can contribute to keeping out cold temperatures and resists movement of the earth around it. One most important functions and issue is: It should last for more than 50 years.

In New Zealand, there are 3 typical types of foundations: Engineered Rib Raft slab, conventional foundation and slab and pile subfloor or block subfloor construction. However, it is best to evaluate which one to use for the type of house you are building and the location where you’re building.
